Some of my earliest memories are of playing make pretend games in the backyard, in a world of my own creation that I’d call “Laliland”. When I played these games, I’d take on many characters, but my primary alter ego was the pirate “Captain Earthquake”, a magical rogue who would cause all kinds of mischief on her many adventures. I must have been around 4 or 5 when this character really began to take hold. In the years that followed, this character and many others would reveal their stories to me.

What I create now is an honoring for my younger self and the imagination that gave life to this world. It is also a magical spell in artistic form: As the Captain grows, I grow. I’m committed to the completion of this work, no matter how long it takes, because the act of creating it is part of the story itself. I hope you’ll join me for the ride.
